IMPACT
In this time of deep polarization, we hope that after watching REFUGE, viewers will have an awakened sense of empathy. Our impact and education campaign is crafted to help our audience deepen their understanding of the complex issues addressed in the film and rekindle their sense of compassion towards one another. We hope to equip our audience with the tools they need to bring about a more informed, connected and empathetic society.
Our impact and education campaign has three goals - to advocate for refugees, to prevent radicalization, and to build empathy across race, faith, and political ideology. We plan to achieve our intended impact through targeted audience screenings and utilizing our website as a resource for information, downloadable fact sheets, toolkits, recommended articles and books.
In order to prevent radicalization, we will flush out its root causes with a broader audience and provide communities most vulnerable to radicalization with the resources they need to stop it before it occurs. Per the recommendation of our impact partner Parents 4 Peace, we will hold our targeted screenings with high school students and educators, veteran groups, the gaming community, and those incarcerated in the prison system in order to engage communities more susceptible to being groomed and radicalizes. We also join Parents 4 Peace in advocating that hate be brought into the domain of public health and addressed in the same way we address other public health crises.
In order to build empathy across race, faith, and political ideology, we will host our targeted screenings in partnership with faith-based organizations, groups involved with racial reconciliation, and groups involved in politics. Each screening will be in partnership with groups of different faith, ethnicity, and political ideology and utilize a curriculum intended to create common ground between people from different backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures. These screenings will take place on college campuses and in communities across the country.
In order to advocate for refugees, we will host our targeted screenings in communities that have refugee resettlement programs, and for policy-makers, nonprofits, and advocacy groups whose work supports those impacted by the refugee crisis internationally and domestically. The post-screening panel and discussion groups will focus on education about the global refugee crisis and the challenges facing and benefits of refugee resettlement.
